Jessie’s Fund gives a voice to seriously ill or disabled children through the transformative power of music. We were established as a registered charity in 1995, in memory of Jessica George, a bright and musical child whose life was sadly cut short by a brain tumour aged 9.
Our vision is for every child in the UK who is seriously ill or disabled to experience music as a form of expression, communication, learning and therapy, through connecting children and those who care for them with specialist musicians. We aim to:
- enable children in every children’s hospice in the UK to access music therapy by establishing posts for music therapists, providing appropriate musicals instruments and offering musical training to staff;
- help children in specialist school, early years and hospital settings to participate in therapeutic and creative musical activities;
- train staff in specialist schools to use music as a tool for communication and learning;
- advocate for music therapy for children and young people with complex needs in the community.
