Once a parent or carer realises that their young person may be autistic, it can be incredibly beneficial to be given guidance and welcomed into the Autistic community by an identifying community member. This workshop is led by an Autistic health professional who will be providing education from an identity-positive way forward.
After a child has received an autism assessment or even while waiting for an assessment, it can be overwhelming for parents and carers to sort through immense and often conflicting information. Parents and carers also often state ‘I just want what’s best for my child.’
The information provided during this workshop will begin with understanding the neurodiversity paradigm (the diversity of human minds), Autistic traits and culture and flow into what I have found to help Autistic people in a way that validates their ways of being. This will include a focus on ways to nurture Autistic people’s identity. The goal is to help you feel more secure on approaches to your young person’s support.
All parents and carers are welcome to this foundation workshop and a formal diagnosis is not needed for your young person. We understand that waiting for an assessment can take a very long time.
