My first 1000 days project – Free parent and baby sessions

My First 1000 Days is a three year project set up by the University of Leeds, which aims to have significant positive impacts on the health and long-term outcomes of children and their families in Leeds.  Sunshine and Smiles has been involved in the design of the project, to ensure the sessions are inclusive and welcoming for families with children with additional needs.

As part of this research project, the University of Leeds are running four free, topic-based sessions, for parents and carers of babies up to 12 months old.  These sessions are designed to be flexible and accessible, allowing families to attend one or more sessions depending on their interests, circumstances, and their baby’s age or stage of development. There is no expectation to attend all four sessions. All sessions are free to attend, and families will receive a goodie bag and lunch.

The sessions combine practical guidance, opportunities for discussion, and signposting to local services and support.  The sessions/topics include:

  • Sleep, Self-Care & Support– Tuesday 24th February
  • Connecting with your baby– Tuesday 3rd March
  • Starting Solids & Staying Active– Tuesday 10th March
  • Safe Spaces and Early words– Tuesday 17th March
