What’s happening with the Wakefield SEND Local Offer?

What’s happening with the Wakefield SEND Local Offer?

From 1 April, Wakefield Council will be running the SEND Local Offer.

The SEND Local Offer is a website that shares information about support, services, and activities for children and young people with SEND and their families.

What will change for you?
At first, there won’t be many changes. The main thing you’ll notice is a new email address if you want to contact us: sendlocaloffer@wakefield.gov.uk

Some other contact details will change too. For example, WESAIL will now be called Wakefield SENDIASS. This service will still be run by Family Action.

What’s coming next?
Over the next few months, we’ll be making improvements to make the Local Offer easier to use.

We have listened to young people, parents, carers, and professionals. Here’s what’s coming:

Transport
There will be a new button on the front page. This will take you straight to the council’s transport policy and application pages.

Search
We’re adding a big search bar to the middle of the front page. This will help you find things more easily – even if the spelling isn’t perfect.

Keeping information up to date
You’ll be able to see:
· when a page was last updated
· when it will be reviewed again

This helps make sure information is correct and current.

Staying safe
We’re creating a list of helpful questions you can ask service providers. This will help you decide if a service is right for you and your family.

How can you get involved?

The Local Offer is for you.

Wakefield Council wants children and young people with SEND, and their families, to help shape it.

We’ll be running pop-up sessions across the district where you can:
· share ideas
· talk about what works
· suggest what you’d like to see on the Local Offer

If you can’t come to a session, you can still get involved by emailing us: sendlocaloffer@wakefield.gov.uk

Thank you

A big thank you to Family Action, who have run the SEND Local Offer for the last four years.

They will continue working with Wakefield Council to provide the SENDIAS Service.

WESAIL is pleased to share the news that following a “bid” process last year, Family Action has won the retender of the WESAIL service.

What will change?

There will be a new contract from 1st April 2026.

The Local Authority has decided to change the name of WESAIL to “Wakefield SENDIASS”. We will be working to change all documents and information available online.

A new Wakefield SENDIASS email address will be created.

What will stay the same?

Family Action will have responsibility for the new contract for at least 4 years.

Wakefield will still have a small team to support families and professionals with advice relating to SEND law and reasonable adjustments in settings. We will also signpost people to other services in Wakefield or Nationally.

The service will continue to be mainly virtual.

Wakefield SENDIASS will keep the current Family Action branded Facebook page but with a name change from April.
